Warren, Rhode Island, is a town where the somewhat dumpy downtown seems frozen in the 1950s. In other words, my kind of place.
Warren is advantageously located on the Warren River.
Warren was among the earliest areas settled after Europeans arrived in North America. By 1886 it was an important northeastern city.
It boasts a classic, possibly even the supreme Del’s Lemonade.Walker Evans should have photographed it. And it has multiple antique and consignment shops that are goofy, fun, and cheap by northeastern standards. Oh, and Carol says I should mention the record shop on the main drag, where the guy has Bang & Olufsen turntables, plenty of classic disks, and will chat you up most charmingly.
There are quite a few good restaurants here. We had a delightful lunch at Ely’s. Good beer and music selection curated by Tyler (I think that’s him in the black tee).
Try the Baxter Brewing Co. Phantom Punch Winter Stout.
