From Knopf&#8217;s archives at the University of Texas come the following judgments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jorge Luis Borges: &#8220;Utterly untranslatable\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Isaac Bashevis Singer: \u201cIt\u2019s Poland and the rich Jews again\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Ana\u00efs Nin: \u201cThere is no commercial advantage in acquiring her, and, in my opinion, no artistic\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Sylvia Plath: \u201cThere certainly isn\u2019t enough genuine talent for us to take notice\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Jack Kerouac: \u201cHis frenetic and scrambling prose perfectly express the feverish travels of the Beat Generation. But is that enough?
