{"id":219,"date":"2007-06-05T18:09:07","date_gmt":"2007-06-06T02:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightreading.com\/blog\/2007\/06\/05\/random-facts\/"},"modified":"2007-06-05T18:09:07","modified_gmt":"2007-06-06T02:09:07","slug":"random-facts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightreading.com\/blog\/publishing\/random-facts\/","title":{"rendered":"Random Facts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rightreading.com\/blog-images-07\/random-house-logo.jpg\" title=\"random house logo\" alt=\"random house logo\" align=\"left\" height=\"157\" width=\"150\" \/>New York<\/em> magazine has posted <a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/news\/features\/2007\/profit\/32906\/\" title=\"random house article\">a brief article about Random House<\/a> (now owned by Bertelsmann) that includes some interesting figures and quotes.<\/p>\n<p>Among the interesting figures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>80 percent of Random&#8217;s profit comes from its backlist<\/li>\n<li>55 percent of Random&#8217;s profit comes from fiction<\/li>\n<li>67 percent of Random&#8217;s income comes from paperbacks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(I can&#8217;t tell if the author is being careful about the use of the terms &#8220;income&#8221; and &#8220;profit,&#8221; and I&#8217;ve replicated his usage.)<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s an interesting quote, from RH CEO Peter Olson.
