The heart of Portland's Japanese Tea Garden is its ceremonial Tea House, called the Flower Heart House, which was built in Japan using pegs in place of nails. Other main features are the Strolling Pond Garden, which contains a wisteria arbor, a stone pagoda lantern from Sapporo, a Moon Bridge and a Zig Zag Bridge, and a waterfall; the Natural Garden; the Dry Landscape Garden (created in 1999 on the model of the places of contemplation that surround Zen temples, called karesansui); and the Flat Garden, which consists mainly of raked sand (conventionally the white material is called sand, but it is very coarse sand--I would call it gravel). I made brief visit on a rare overcast day (haha) and mainly photographed the Flat Garden.
